Diagnostic laboratory testing in the pediatric inpatient setting can be a source of waste and excess spending, with up to 20% of testing being considered as overuse as the results do not change diagnosis, management or prognosis.  Using quality improvement methods, our team sought to reduce electrolyte tests for children admitted to our hospital.
